Mahoning Valley Safety Council: Fire Safety for the Holidays!
Tis the season to start thinking about holiday feasts, Christmas trees, festive decor and lighting your home like Clark Griswold in 'Christmas Vacation'! But with all the warmth and fun the seasons bring, safety should always be top of mind.
Cooking fires are the #1 cause of residential fires, and an average of 1,700 cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving Day each year--more than three times the average number on any other day of the year. And lighting and trees can also cause fires and a number of other safety issues.
Jesse Baughman, Fire Safety Educator for the Ohio Department of Commerce, will join us at the MVSC's November webinar and touch on a bit of everything related to holiday safety: indoor and outdoor lighting, Christmas trees, safe decorating around fireplaces, the importance of using the correct extension cord and not overloading wall outlets, using auxiliary heating and cooking safely.
