Description
Sheryl Maxfield was appointed director of the Ohio Department of Commerce in January 2019 by Governor Dewine. Before assuming her current role, she had a lengthy career in public service at the Ohio Attorney General's Office, holding several positions since starting in 1984.
As director, Maxfield oversees the state's leading regulatory agency. The department is focused on promoting growth, success and safety of the businesses in real estate, securities, liquor control, fire safety, financial institutions, industrial compliance, medical marijuana and unclaimed funds.
Director Maxfield received her bachelor's degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University and her law degree from The University of Toledo's College of Law. She and husband Atty. Michael Maxfield have two children.
