Description

Mahoning Valley Safety Council: Stop the Bleed!

Uncontrolled hemorrhage is a major cause of preventable death after injury. Since a person can die from blood loss within minutes, it is important to quickly stop the bleeding. Recognizing that bystanders will almost always be first on scene, the “Stop the Bleed” campaign was launched to put knowledge into the hands of the public to help save lives.

Speaker Amanda Lencyk, Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, will join us and share more about the "Stop the Bleed" campaign. With 3 quick actions, attendees can be trained and empowered to save a life.

The campaign provides bystanders with basic tools and information on the simple steps they can take to stop life threatening bleeding, before professional emergency responders arrive. Organized by Homeland Security, the American College of Surgeons, first responders and law enforcement, “Stop the Bleed” was developed in response to mass shootings and other tragedies with multiple victims. Similar to the use of CPR or automatic defibrillators, improving public awareness about how to stop severe bleeding and expanding personal and public access to Bleeding Control Kits can be the difference between life and death for an injured person.
